Civil Design software is constantly being challenged by changing business and technology trends. As such, we have to respond not only to the current demands of the market, but look ahead and be ready for whatever the future may hold. We’ll take a look at these current challenges and how Bentley Civil is responding.

Many of the Corps of Engineers projects require (either through usage or delivery) a Bentley created Building Information Model. This session will discuss items the public should know on how to deliver a Bentley BIM based model to the USACE when a Bentley deliverable is specified. Topics include an overview of the Attachment F level of detail, standards checking, part verification, datagroup verification, frequently asked questions, and Q&A with the audience.

With the TriService Workspace, it is important to insure that each party in the organization is aware of their responsibilities and to share the information generated in a simple manor. The goals of the reorganization of the V8i Workspace attempts to divide those responsibilities into an easy to manage workflow. This session includes members from the USACE Workspace sub Community of Practice (subCoP) showing a preview the current state of the forthcoming V8i workspace.

This presentation will discuss the benefits of using ProjectWise to manage your MicroStation CAD Standards files with the Managed Workspaces feature introduced in ProjectWise. Topics covered in this session will include how to create workspace profiles and then apply them to projects and folders in a ProjectWise datasource.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a hot topic in the industry, and the Corps of Engineers is leading the way with its use and its requirements for A/E Partners to deliver projects. This session will discuss the history and need for the contract language, the current state of the language, the different versions of the language (Center of Standardization projects, non-Center of Standardization projects, and “BIM Neutral”), the submittal of a BIM Implementation Plan, clarifications and other Q&A items frequently submitted to the Corps.

Bentley’s STAAD product line consists of comprehensive structural analysis tools widely used in the plant and civil markets. Topics include the recent and upcoming enhancements to STAAD.Pro and STAAD.foundation; the nonlinear analysis capabilities of the STAAD programs; an overview of the new STAAD(X) architecture/ interface and associated programs (such as STAAD(X).Tower); and a discussion of Bentley’s Integrated Structural Model (ISM) allowing for improved integration among Bentley’s products and 3rd party software.

Bentley’s RAM product line consists of specialty tools for the structural analysis and design of buildings. Topics include the increased concrete design capabilities and modeling flexibility within the RAM Structural System; component calculations in RAM Elements (previously RAM Advanse); special AISC seismic provisions and graphic enhancements in RAM Connection; the improved integration of RAM Concept; and a discussion of Bentley’s Integrated Structural Model (ISM) allowing for improved integration among Bentley’s products and 3rd party software.

Bentley Systems, through a partnership with the International Masonry Institute (IMI), has developed software that implements an innovative structural design procedure utilizing masonry shear walls as a lateral bracing system within structural steel frames. This session will consist of a brief introduction to the hybrid masonry theory, an overview of RAM Elements’ (previously known as RAM Advanse) design features for traditional load bearing and hybrid masonry, and an overview in utilizing the RAM Structural System in conjunction with RAM Elements to design masonry buildings.
